Don’t do readings as much as possible, you will never have time to read 300 pages a week and do essays on top of it and all it leads to are dark thoughts. Is the admissions average different? That's pretty high and so I wouldn't be surprised if a program like CS is more competitive than EngSci due to the sheer number of people applying to it. Consider what those are and research the available courses/opportunities in each degree to make your choice. Either program is useful insofar as it serves your long-term goals.
